Sometime between the 1980's and today, the idea, the notion, the very concept of bearing compassion for those less fortunate has systematically been dismantled through a very long, patient and brilliantly executed use of broadcast media and replaced with a scorn and repulsion for those grappling with poverty. Ironically, and what is truly astonishing about this full reversal of sentiment, is that this mindset is a shared loathing even more prevalent among those that fall within the same or similar social economic circumstance.
This is the power of television.
